Are you a home based worker? If you are, you may enjoy the fact that you are able to work from the comfort of your own home. Although working from home is nice, there are some home based workers who find themselves in trouble with their supervisors, find themselves having difficultly meeting deadlines, and so forth.

When many individuals, especially home based workers, think of office management, traditional workplace settings are often the first thing that comes to mind. Yes, this is most often the case, but it is important to note that even home based workers can benefit from office management. Even if you are your only employee, it is advised that you develop an office management plan for yourself, as there are a number of benefits to doing so.

The first step in creating an office management plan for yourself is examining your workplace. Do you have a home office? Although you may not have a separate room to use for your office, you are still advised to have your own space. This space should at least include an office desk. If at all possible, you may want to try and create your own office. This can be done by examining all walk-in closets in your home or by setting up an office curtain, which can act as office doors and walls. Having your own space is the first step in ensuring that your at-home operations are professionally operated. (more…)

It wasn’t that long ago that a tremendous scare went through the internet community. The issue had to do with the huge amount of data that can be collected on individuals using search engines online. This large body of information naturally drew the attention of the Homeland Security agencies who are charged with the job of finding out all they can about potential sleeper cells of terrorism in this country.

The stand off came when the government began to demand access to the search records of all users of the major search engines. When this upcoming struggle for privacy began to come to a head, many of us who depend on search engines for both personal and business research began to get that “big brother is watching” feeling.

It’s a tough compromise. We know that our government must have the ability to find and put a stop to security risks that might result in another disaster like September 11th 2001. But at the same time, Americans are tremendously protective of their liberties, their privacy and their right to be left alone by the government.

Of all of the search engines who were in the spotlight during that struggle, Google’s resistance to allowing undue invasion of privacy of their customers stood out as an act of courage in a difficult confrontation. It turned out that Homeland Security really wasn’t becoming “big brother” and was simply researching how to use statistical data to possibly find terrorist patterns in search engine usage. But many of us remember that while Yahoo and others knuckled under quickly, it was Google who stood up and protected user information rather than immediately turn it over to Uncle Sam.

This stand reflects a long established business ethic that Google has maintained to be protective of the data it collects about users of its search tools. That protective nature has more benefits than just building our confidence that Google is a safe tool for all of us to use. Google indeed has at its disposal a tremendous library of personal information on anyone using its search tools. And as the dominant search engine in the industry, this potential includes just about anyone who accesses the internet. (more…)

Strategic Internet marketing has been the engine that has powered online business in the last decade or so. The last decade has seen the World Wide Web come up as a converging medium that evolved with the increasing bandwidth and other evolving technologies like streaming video and powerful new codec.

It is expected that within the next five years or so Internet advertising would get free of technological bottlenecks and there is no knowing what wonderful technologies would come up to make life simpler. As you know, we are already having somewhat limited web-mercials instead of television commercials. These full-fledged audio-visual ads do not vanish, like their counterparts in television, when the time is over.

Like graphic advertisements on newspapers they are anchored to their places in the web-pages. It is like eating your cake and having it too. Strategic web-based marketing means using a strong game plan while going about it. (more…)
